QUICK HISTORY
The Marquette Climbers’ Cooperative was established in 2012 to create a sustainable community and living space for local climbers. Located in Marquette, Michigan, the cooperative explores incorporating sustainable living practices into the daily lives of residents and community members. Though named the Climbers’ Co-op, it is supported by climbers and non-climbers alike. Permaculture design is the core of this sustainable housing project. |
USE OF PERMACULTURE DESIGN
What is permaculture? click here for a brief description. Permaculture design is a way of engineering systems (such as housing or gardening) so that cycles of waste and energy input are reduced, if not closed into a perpetual feedback loop. At the Climbers’ Co-op, we try to change the way housing and living are done by experimenting and working through problems as a team. 5-9 people live in the house and visitors are welcome. We host community work days and fundraisers in hope of creating a new future and a community worthy of living in. |
